The enigma of the
late afternoon is visual arts and theatre in the same performance,
created as a collaborative project between Danish performance
theatre Hotel Pro Forma
and Japanese performance theatre Dumb Type.
It was performed at the New Carlsberg
Glyptotek Museum in the fall of 1992. The point of origin
for the performance is the metaphysical image-world of the
Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978). A visual arts
world framed by elements of the Antique epoch and underlined
by symbolic excamples of modern technology. Past and present
meet on the empty place of eternity. As a refrence to this,
the classic rows of colums, porticos and statues in the New
Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum create a grandous frame around
the performance, which in form and content unites visual art,
architecture and technology, a historic past and a modern
present.
